Opening sequences analysis

This is England

The film was made to portray what England was like in 1983. It is about a young kid aged 12 called Shaun, his summer holidays have started and he gets himself involved with the wrong kind of people and it goes on from there, racism, unemployment and the hard life  is shown as they want to get a message across.

Opening Sequence

The sequence starts with a famous puppet, Roland Rat and then the music kicks in, which plays throughout the whole sequence. Then it changes to titles and it keeps switching from titles to something related to England back in 1983 e.g. a TV show. The reason i think they did this is so that viewers have a clear idea of when the film was set and the kind of things they will see. The titles are in a rough text with a black background and i think they want to show the era was rough and peoples lives weren't easy. This is a continuous trend for 3 minutes 20, As then the music fades out and the click fades out to a black screen finally finishing.
